Insect pests weaken trees and woody plants once their populations take hold, and the damage is often well underway before it shows in the canopy. Crawford Tree & Landscape provides systemic pest control that protects plants from specific borer and non-borer insects, applied during the right seasonal windows and paired with nutrients that support healthy new growth. Our ISA Certified Arborists match the treatment to the pest rather than spraying the same product on every tree, and pest control is one part of our wider plant health care program. A tree health inspection is the starting point when you are not sure what is affecting a tree, and it keeps you from paying for a treatment the tree does not need.
Catching these early matters. A pest problem found in time is often treatable, while a tree left too long may decline past the point where treatment or pruning can help.
A preventative trunk injection of emamectin benzoate that protects ash trees for two years and is up to 99 percent effective when applied preventatively to a healthy candidate tree. Treatments are usually performed between July and September. An ash that is already heavily infested may be past saving, in which case our tree removal crew can take it down safely before it becomes brittle.
A soil injection that corrects organic and mineral deficiencies in the root zone, supporting plants that are stressed, newly planted, or showing signs of chlorosis or necrosis. It can be applied in spring, summer, or fall.
A preventative soil injection of insecticide applied alongside slow-release nitrogen, potash, potassium liquid fertilizer, and chelated iron for faster absorption. The borer treatment gives one year of residual control against pests such as bronze birch borer and two-lined chestnut borer, while the non-borer treatment offers season-long protection against pests including Japanese beetle, magnolia scale, lace bugs, aphids, and birch leafminer. The non-borer product is not harmful to pollinators such as bees.
Timing depends on the insect. Borer treatments can be performed in spring or fall, while non-borer treatments are performed in spring. Systemic treatments are scheduled according to the seasonal requirements set out in your proposal, so the right window is confirmed before any work is booked.
We start by determining the right systemic treatment based on the target pest and the seasonal window. The insecticide is applied as a preventative soil injection and combined with slow-release nitrogen, potash, potassium liquid fertilizer, and chelated iron. These materials help the treatment absorb faster while feeding the plant and encouraging new growth. Borer treatments use imidacloprid and may be applied in spring or fall, while non-borer treatments use chlorantraniliprole and are applied in spring for season-long control.
Systemic pest control is priced per DBH, which is the trunk diameter at breast height, or per visit, depending on the treatment in your seasonal proposal. A larger tree takes more product than a small one, and some pests need more than one visit in a season, so we confirm the scope and price before any treatment is scheduled. Systemic treatments are performed in spring from March to May or fall from September to December, according to the seasonal proposal. Borer treatments may be performed in spring or fall, while non-borer treatments are performed in spring.
The insecticide is injected with slow-release nitrogen, potash, potassium liquid fertilizer, and chelated iron. These materials help with faster absorption, protect the plant, and encourage new growth.
The product used for non-borer insect control is not harmful to pollinators such as bees.
Systemic pest control is priced per DBH or per visit, depending on the treatment.

We have had a great experience with Crawford since they were first recommended by a neighbor to help us determine if our Ash trees were worth saving. Jon came out and gave us a thorough assessment and recommendation for treatment.

Crawford Tree has been servicing my personal residence as well as the common areas of the homeowners association property in the subdivision in which I live for 10+ years, and they have always provided high-quality, detailed, expert treatment of the trees, shrubs, bushes, [and] lawn areas associated with both.

We are having a fantastic experience with Crawford! We called in Spring and talked with Steve about our front lawn. The dirt level was so high, it was nearly impossible to edge. We also had a very clumpy, bumpy lawn and small bare spots all over, that were more like holes and it was so uneven. Originally, we were going to do the job ourselves. Let me say...SO glad we didn't.
